Precision Manual Grinding: BOLE’s Art of Giving CNC Parts a Superior Finish

At BOLE, we know that even if the most advanced CNC machining technology can achieve micron-level accuracy, the surface treatment of some key parts still requires experienced craftsmen to complete by hand. In addition, although CNC machine tools can process materials into the desired shape with extremely high precision, the tool marks left on the surface of the parts, as well as the burrs and knife tumors generated during the machining process are unavoidable. At this time, we need our manual grinding process to give the final perfect shape of the parts. Manual grinding not only makes up for the limitations of mechanical processing, but also meets the stringent requirements of surface quality in medical, aerospace, automotive and other industries.

What is manual grinding ?

Our grinding process is a rigorous, step-by-step technical process, not a simple sandpaper wipe. In the early stage, we will carefully examine the machined part after CNC 加工, and identify obvious tool marks, delamination lines and burr positions. For obvious tool marks and delamination lines, we use coarse-grained sandpaper to polish along the direction of the CNC tool path to avoid new and more messy scratches. On the basis of coarse grinding, gradually replace it with finer sandpaper, and use water as a lubricant to obtain a more delicate surface and reduce dust. For the machined part with mirror requirements, mechanical polishing is performed after fine grinding. The last step is to completely remove all the dust and oil wax on the surface of the machined part. Under the standard light source, the machined part is finally tested from all angles to ensure that the surface quality fully meets the customer ‘s requirements.

Why choose manual grinding ?

  1. Perfect treatment of complex structures

In areas where CNC is difficult to reach, such as deep holes, cavities, and small chamfers, our artisans use customized tools for fine finishing to ensure that there are no burrs and no stress concentration.

  • Customized surface texture

According to customer needs, different effects such as mirror polishing ( Ra ≤ 0.1μm ), matte, and wire drawing can be provided to meet functional or aesthetic requirements.

  • More adaptable materials

For different materials such as titanium alloy, aluminum alloy and stainless steel, special grinding process is adopted to avoid overheating deformation or material damage.

What is our manual grinding process standard?

Strict environmental control: constant temperature and humidity workshop, reduce the influence of temperature fluctuation on accuracy.

Advanced detection methods: using white light interferometer, roughness meter real-time monitoring, to ensure that every detail meets the standard.

Traceable quality management: each process records the operating parameters and supports the whole process traceability.

What is the typical application of manual grinding?

Medical instruments: super smooth surface treatment of artificial joints and surgical instruments.
