What is CNC machining?

Computer-numeric controlled (CNC) machining is a subtractive manufacturing process, where raw material is removed with a variety of precision cutting tools. Advanced software is used to control the equipment according to the instructions of your CAD drawing file.

Our team of machinists program the equipment to optimize cutting time, surface finish, and final tolerance to meet your design specifications.


We use CNC machining not only to manufacture finished parts and prototypes but also to make mold tools, which may later be used for plastic injection molding or pressure die casting

 

Milling is typically used to produce parts that are not axially symmetric and have many features, such as holes, slots, pockets, and even three dimensional surface contours. Parts that are fabricated completely through milling often include components that are used in limited quantities, perhaps for prototypes, such as custom designed fasteners or brackets.

Another application of milling is the fabrication of tooling for other processes. For example, three-dimensional molds are typically milled. Milling is also commonly used as a secondary process to add or refine features on parts that were manufactured using a different process. Due to the high tolerances and surface finishes that milling can offer, it is ideal for adding precision features to a part whose basic shape has already been formed.

 


At Bole we have over 30 industry leading CNC machines. These top quality machines work by processing 3D CAD data. CNC can be used to produce machined parts and prototypes very quickly, at a high production rate and to a high degree of accuracy.
 


CNC machines are able to work with a great many different materials including; plastics (ABS, Polyurethane, and Polypropylene etc.), metals (Copper, Aluminium etc) wood and other specialist materials.
